Notta has a mobile app for those who want to transcribe files on their phone.

Notta is providing 120 minutes/month to free users. However, users will get a beta version of live recording transcription. In other words, you can expect some bugs if you use the free version to transcribe the meetings.

You can’t export anything in the free version. When you will try to export, it will ask to upgrade as shown in the screenshot.

4. Veed

Veed is a complete video editor solution. Subtitles & transcription are some of their features. It is a cloud-based video editor and it is free to try.

The beauty of veed is having a video editor along with a subtitle feature is much more convenient than just having a single transcribe feature.

Not just editing you can also record videos using veed. Veed has so many features that you normally don’t expect from a video editor platform.

Veed transcription

For example, you can generate images from text, remove background, text to speech, Video downloader, stock media library, video compressor, etc.

These features make it very easy when you have no idea where to start. In their free plan, you can export up to 720p videos but your results will be watermarked.

Pricing

Free users can’t export subtitles. They recently introduced this limit, previously it was free. You will get 30 minutes free per month. Here are their paid plans.

5. Filmora

Filmora is a very popular video editor among content creators. In the beginning, it used to be a very basic editor however today the Wondershare team added many features such as masking, keyframe, motion tracking, etc. These features make it one of the most powerful video editors.

Recently Wondershare added 2 extra add-ons.  Text to speech and Speech to text. Here are the best alternatives to Filmora speech-to-text

Filmora Speech to text

Basically, they are using AWS API behind the scenes. The only advantage of using these add-ons is you can have tts and transcriptions while editing the video. It is very convenient, especially for text-to-speech where you require continuous iteration.

The only problem is that these add-ons will cost you extra money. These extensions are not free Filmora. You can get 30 minutes for free. Here are the paid plans.

Pricing

This speech-to-text add-on is available on the pay-as-you-go model. Here are the current plans for the credits.

  1. Desktop Video Editor
  2. Customize Subtitles

Cons

  1. Accuracy Could be better
  2. Only 27 languages
  3. Long Subtitles: You have to manually split by listening to the Audio.

6. Freesubtitles.ai

Another website that offers very similar features to Listenmonster. Just like Listenmonster, you don’t need to sign up. Simply upload your files to transcribe.

In the earlier days, this website was completely free. However, now they have added some new features in exchange for money.

Freesubtitles home page

They don’t have plans to contact the team in Discord to request new features.

The free plan is pretty solid, but the catch is the waiting time, basically, it does not process all transcription in parallel. As a free user, you might find yourself stuck in a queue for over 20 minutes.

This website is available on a pay-as-you-go model.  Here are the paid plan features.

  • Skip the queue
  • Raised Limits: Transcribe Files as long as 10 hours
  • Permanent Media Storage
  • Media downloader: Works with 1100 websites
  • Transcribe Multiple files at once
  • API Access

It will cost you $0.99/hour. You can purchase as low or as high as you want.

7. Clipchamp

Just like veed Clipchamp is a complete video editor solution. Where subtitles are just one of their feature. You are also getting text-to-speech, camera recorder, and screen recorder that enhances its video editing features.

The biggest advantage of ClipChamp is it’s free. Unlike other editors, you can export video in 1080p without a watermark.

Not only this, you can also export SRT files instead of burning over videos. However, you can’t do a lot of customization like Happy Scribe.

8. Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro does not need any introduction. It is one of the most famous video editors among professionals.

Adobe Premier Pro has build in transcription & subtitle feature. You can also use third-party extensions for more accessibility.

Some of these extensions are free. Premiere Pro will cost you $20/month.

Some people use the crack version to get this editor completely free. You can easily find it online. The only limitation is updates.

Premiere Pro

Although this solution is amazing, I will not recommend it at all. The reason is Premiere is a very robust video editor and you can spend a couple of weeks learning it properly.

Premiere Pro also needs a powerful PC to run smoothly otherwise you will face lags while doing any kind of task.

So in case you are looking for a video editor then definitely it is the best solution for you. However not recommended if you never edited a video using Premiere Pro.

9. Capcut

When I first tried Capcut it blew my mind. Just like Filmora capcut is also a video editor. This editor is built by the TikTok team.

They made it, especially for TikTok. This is completely free and there is no paid plan.

Just like Veed transcription is just one of their features. But I have to admit it is very accurate.

Capcut text-to-speech is also very natural and they have voices that can sing as well.

Capcut is available for all platforms from Mac to Windows, Android to iPhone. Linux users can use the web-based solution where you don’t even need to sign up.

You’ll need an internet connection for transcription, even with the software installed on your computer. But hey, sign up and you can store all your projects for easy access!

For transcription go to Text and then click Auto Caption as you shown in the screenshot. Then choose your language and click on Create.

Capcut transcription

Capcut is a very straightforward editor, unlike Premiere Pro.

Conclusion

Subtitles/Captions are no longer a luxury they are crucial. Adding subtitles lets users better understand your content.

As I have shown there are a lot of free alternatives available to Happy Scribe. Some tools are completely free to use, while some just give you a few features for free.

Every user has different needs, so I have listed down the pros & cons of all tools. I hope you can decide by yourself which one is better for you.
